An HR Generalist often has wide ranging responsibility for human resource activities throughout a company. The job duties are diverse and play a major role in the human resources department. A human resource generalist can provide advice, assistance and follow-up on company policies, procedures, and documentation, as well as coordinating the resolution of specific policy-related and procedural problems and inquiries.

As a human resources generalist, your job duties could include:

  • Responsibility for all human resource activities to include employment, compensation, employee relations, benefits, and training and development.
  • Recruitment and staffing – interviewing job applicants, evaluating applicant skills, making recommendations regarding applicant's qualifications, and maintain relationship with employment agencies, and other recruitment sources.
  • Prepare, process and distribute payroll.
  • Developing and implementing HR policies and procedures.
  • Recommend, develop and schedule training and development courses.
  • Updating personnel files, employee status changes, and administering leaves of absence.
  • Overseeing employee relations counselling, maintain company salary structure, annual performance reviews and exit interviews.
  • Organising work space for new employees and conduct new employee orientations.
  • Recommend, develop and maintain human resource data bases, computer software systems, and manual filing systems.
